Our trip began during a weekend excursion to the Indiana Dunes State Park. We were joined by Steve, Laura, William, and Guin for the weekend. There was no alcohol allowed in the park, quite a let down, but we still managed to drink plenty of "cream sodas" without any problems. We cooked dinner (burgers, dogs, and pizza puffs) then we walked to the beach, played some frisbee, then came back to camp and improvised smores with some thin mints. During the night, a big storm passed over and it rained, thundered, and lightninged for a few hours. Everything was soaked and even our tent leaked a bit. In the morning we went for an 8 mile hike, half on the wetlands side of the dunes and half on the beach side.
We took a swim in Lake Michigan, spied on by some peeping tom in the bushes, then walked barefoot with our feet in the water most of the way back. The hike was a little strenuous since we had to walk the last half facing the sun and walking in sand. When we got back to the camp a park ranger informed us another storm was coming that night, possibly with winds 50 miles an hour and up, so we decided to pack up camp and head back to the city rather than risk being crushed by falling trees in the night.
